Restricted access piling.
Being able to drive piles in all sorts of hard-to-reach places means that we can offer all of our usual services, in hard-to-reach places.
Wherever piles are needed as part of a foundation build or repair solution, no matter how tricky the access, we can help.
Maybe you need to underpin a Victorian property in London with the only access being an alleyway along the side of the house – no problem.
Maybe you need to underpin a ‘new build’ coach house, with the only access being through a low arch or garage – no problem.
Need to work under a bridge – no problem (we could actually drive piles in a tunnel if required).
Need to build a piled raft foundation behind a row of terraced houses, with the only access being through the house – no problem.
Need to drive piles in an area to which the only access is via a pedestrian bridge – no problem.
Machinery weight limits – no problem.
Concern over noise or vibration of piling with larger machines – no problem.
I could go on, but this is going to get boring. I hope the above gives you a good idea of the capabilities of both our teams, and our machines.

For more demanding applications we also have a D500 drop hammer rig. This will drive piles up to 273mm in diameter, but once again the power pack can be left outside, with the rig operated remotely on the end of a 25m operating hose.
We make a point of not having ‘London prices’ when working in London and the South East, and as such, win an awful lot of work in these areas. Our restricted access machinery and techniques are absolutely perfect for work in London (and all other cities in which space is often limited). In these areas, we usually find ourselves using the restricted access kit for the following types of job.
- Piled raft underpins. Using the equipment above, this type of underpin can be completed internally and completely within the original footprint of the property. A piled raft underpin is a permanent solution to subsidence as it fully supports the superstructure of the building, completely independently from the original (failed) foundations.
- Ground beam and pile foundations. We usually use our restricted access equipment for his type of work when either, a foundation is required behind a house for an extension, or for new builds when the access is unusually challenging. This technique is most commonly used when ground conditions are poor, when in close proximity to mature trees on shrinkable clay sub-soil, and when digging traditional deep trench foundations is unsuitable. It is also a very useful technique if you need to reduce the volume of spoil to be dug and removed from site.
- Cantilevered needle beam. Usually used for partial underpins to domestic properties.
- Knuckle piles. Usually used for solutions for lightweight domestic properties.
Our restricted access options are the most neighbour friendly way to build or fix foundations. With very little noise and very low vibrations, we cause very little disturbance to neighbouring properties.
